People often become sad as the summer draws to an end, beaches closed, kids going back to school, vacations a mere memory. I on the other hand have grown to think the opposite; the summer has always been a hectic time for my family cramming as much “fun” into a few months as possible with the thought of the summer ending looming on the horizon. As I have grown older the end of summer and beginning of fall has become (at least in my mind) the exhale of a deep breath, a time to relax, slow down and get ready for the long trek through winter.
Autumn, with the smell of dry leaves, bright blue cool days and crisp clear nights brings me back to my childhood in New England, running through piles of leaves, picking apples, Halloween, Thanksgiving and anticipation of the king of all holidays Christmas. Door County has become our grown up “New England” on our annual October trip I am again the “kid” running through leaves, playing football with the only care being to have as much fun tomorrow as I did today. Well enough day dreaming, have a great day and see ya soon.
